Jeffrey M. Hoffman
Jeff is a native New Orleanian who has been practicing law since 2004 where he has specialized in the area of family law. He has litigated cases and negotiated settlements involving adultery, child custody, child support, spousal support, fault, prenuptial agreements, community property partitions, co-owned property partitions, and complex financial and business related matters. Jeff has a particular interest in and has successfully tried numerous cases involving the Uniform Child Custody Jurisdiction and Enforcement Act (UCCJEA) and the Parental Kidnapping and Prevention Act (PKPA), either advocating that jurisdiction be maintained in Louisiana or for a Louisiana court to cede jurisdiction to another state’s court.
Jeff has been honored and/or recognized by numerous local and national publications, and he assists the bar association in developing programs for family law attorneys. In 2013, he was first recognized as a Rising Star in the area of family law by the Super Lawyers publication and has been recognized as a Super Lawyer by the publication since 2018. Also in 2013, Jeff was appointed to the Family Law Committee of the New Orleans Bar Association, where he has assisted in the Mentor Up program, which provides free help to young and solo family law practitioners in the area and he has helped develop the Mental Health Professionals Meet and Greet program, which was designed to introduce members of the bar association to local and regional mental health professionals who perform services such as custody evaluation, reunification therapy, and parenting coordination. In 2014, Jeff was recognized as one of the “Top 10 Under 40” for excellence in the field of Family Law by the National Academy of Family Law Attorneys. In 2015 and 2017 – 2020, Jeff was recognized by New Orleans Magazine as one of the Top Attorneys in the field of Family Law. He was included by New Orleans CityBusiness as Ones To Watch: Law in 2017 and has also been recognized by the national publication, Best Lawyers in America, in the field of family law.
Outside of the family law arena, Jeff has also successfully represented clients in personal injury lawsuits, trade mark infringement cases, employment discrimination, sexual harassment cases, Fair Labor Standards Act cases and collection matters. He helps entrepreneurs and current family law clients form their business, draft contracts and operating agreements, and negotiate leases. Jeff has also defended people and businesses in tort and damages claims.
Jeff attended the University of Wisconsin – Madison, where he graduated in 2001, earning a dual Bachelors of Arts in Political Science and Art History. He then returned to the South to study law at LSU Paul M. Hebert Law Center earning his Juris Doctorate and Bachelor in Civil Law in 2004.
